En tránsito

(2018)

We spend a great deal of our time on public transport without giving it much thought, but this non-place is a sample of our behavior towards the “other” and there we can observe ourselves unawares. For this reason, we chose these spaces to reflect on empathy and our responsibility as citizens.
En tránsito: reflexiones escénicas en la Avenida Jiménez (In transit: scenic reflections on Jiménez Ave.) arises from an investigation on the ways of representing the experience of living in the city. From an ethnographic observation, we studied the behaviors of people in public transportation in Bogota, the capital with the highest traffic congestion in the world. Thus, we denaturalize the dynamics that take place, and present theatrical interventions that problematize violent behaviors and promote a reflection on the role of the individual in the urban system.

The research was part of a project in Transmilenio stations, winner of a Grant in Citizen Culture awarded by Transmilenio S.A. and the District Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sports in Bogotá, Colombia.
