Mercado Clandestino

Mercado Clandestino

(2019)

In a half-lit theater, on one of the most influential days of the 2019 Colombia’s national strike, the Mercado Clandestino (Black Market) took place for the first time in Latin America. 60 water experts gathered to speak to attendees about our history, violence, and the element that connects us all.
This production, halfway between theatricality and scientificity, was part of the strategies to recognize the armed conflict in Colombia and understand how the different perspectives of what it is make us as a country. The production of the encounter, in addition to the logistical work, contributed to the aesthetic choices of the staging, with a strong contextualization work to immerse this format in the reality of the country.
This montage is an example of the scope of scenic language to propose new social connections around diverse knowledge through the formal elements of performance and theater.

A project for the Truth Commission by the Mobile Academy Berlin, organized by Mapa Teatro, in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and Universidad Central, supported by the German Colombian Peace Institute (CAPAZ) and the Central Bank of Colombia. Funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Goethe-Institut.
